A quarter of car buyers go full electric
Nearly a quarter of car buyers expect their next vehicle to be electric, according to new research from Cazoo & Motors.
Its Consumer Insight Panel polled over 2,000 buyers and found that 24% expect to go electric with their next purchase. This is up from 21% who said the same thing in January.
Meanwhile, 31% said they expect their next car to be a hybrid, while the number of people who said they will buy a petrol or diesel model next fell from 47% to 45%.
The survey also found that 62% of electric vehicle drivers had bypassed hybrids and gone straight from petrol or diesel to electric.
Tipping point
Lucy Tugby, marketing director of Cazoo & Motors, said: “We are now seeing the highest ever levels of electric vehicle consideration among car buyers. Over previous Consumer Insight Panels around 20% of buyers typically expected to make the transition but this has jumped to nearly a quarter, suggesting a tipping point is being reached.
“Our research also identifies that hybrid is not the stepping stone technology it was widely considered to be, with most electric vehicle owners having transitioned directly from petrol and diesel.”
