Used car demand accelerates in March

Used car demand in the UK grew in March as prices dipped and days to sale fell, according to new data from Cazoo & MOTORS’ Market View.

Its data revealed that car supermarkets reported a 24% increase in sales volumes compared to the same month last year, while dealerships saw a seven per cent rise in sales.

Meanwhile, the data revealed that the average selling time in March was 25 days, five days fewer than in February and a week quicker than in January. Sales from dealership forecourts was just 18 days and car supermarket sales averaged 20 days, with a 43-day average selling time from independents pushing the average up.

Demand was boosted by a 0.8% month-on-month reduction in average prices, down £133 to £17,556, meaning prices have now fallen three months in a row. Electric vehicle prices averaged £22,174, 1.8% lower than February and a full nine per cent cheaper than the same month in 2025.

Strong March

Lucy Tugby, marketing director of Cazoo & MOTORS, said: “Many dealers experienced a strong March as consumer demand was boosted by good availability and competitive pricing. This was reflected in the best month we’ve recorded for lead generation across the Cazoo & MOTORS platforms.

“Our data shows some strong performances being achieved across all car retailing sectors, with franchised dealers retaining their used car focus during the plate-change.”
