Used car buyers go the extra mile – AA Cars

New research has revealed that a quarter of used car buyers would travel more than 100 miles for the right second hand car.
According to a survey of more than 11,000 motorists carried out by AA Cars, 54% of drivers would travel up to 50 miles to secure a second-hand vehicle that meets all their requirements.
Nearly a quarter (23%) would travel between 51 and 100 miles and a further nine per cent said they would travel between 101 and 150 miles.
The research also found that low mileage was a key factor for 64% of drivers travelling further, with 49% citing a full service history and 34% saying lower price.
Meanwhile, 22% said they would travel further for a newer model or registration, while 21% valued a one-owner vehicle.

James Hosking, director of AA Cars, said: “Consumers are showing an increasing willingness to travel further to secure used vehicles that deliver strong value, reliability, and the right specifications. Advanced online search tools and filters are enabling buyers to quickly identify attractive deals beyond their local area, expanding the competitive landscape for dealerships.
“For dealers, this presents a valuable opportunity to market well-maintained, competitively priced stock to a broader audience. Vehicles with low mileage, a full service history, or standout features are particularly likely to draw interest from motivated out-of-area buyers.
“To help build buyer confidence, especially for distance purchases, dealerships may want to encourage or even facilitate independent vehicle inspections. Doing so can reduce the likelihood of post-sale disputes and support long-term customer satisfaction and trust.”
