Interest in automotive apprenticeships surges

Apprenticeship Central has reported a surge in interest for automotive apprenticeships, with more than 1,000 young people making enquiries.

Apprenticeship roles include technical positions like service and repair through to customer facing, administrative, and support roles.

Apprenticeship Central says this highlights that interest in the sector is there and young people are open to a wide range of career paths within automotive, provided the opportunities are clear and accessible.

It is now advocating for clear pathways, strong support structures, and employers willing to invest in the future workforce in order to tackle the skills shortage.

Change perceptions

Eleanor Baker Barnes, commercial director at Apprenticeship Central, said: “We all know that the industry needs to do more to change perceptions and attract new talent. That work is far from over, but it’s encouraging to see this volume of interest and really positive to have so many young people actively choosing automotive as a career path.”

She continued:

“It’s a busy and energising time. The level of interest we’re seeing puts us in a unique position to support employers with access to a wide and diverse pipeline, and to help shape what the future of the industry looks like.”
