Fuel prices highest since 2013

Petrol prices are at their highest level in eight years.

According to the AA, average prices now have hit 133p a litre, almost 20p higher than in November. Diesel prices are also up.

The increase in fuel costs comes after a steady rise in oil prices which increased from $43 a barrel to more than $70 a barrel now.

Luke Bosdet, the AA’s fuel price spokesman, said: “Surging pump prices continue to drain family and other consumer spending. A family with two petrol cars would have spent around £230 on fuel in November had Covid lockdowns not discouraged travel. Now, the monthly cost of refuelling their vehicles is above £265.”
