The price of diesel rose 8p a litre in September, with petrol up 4.5p during the month. Diesel increased from 154.78p to 163.11p, making it the fifth largest rise since 2000. Data from RAC Fuel Watch has found that supermarkets are currently enjoying margins of about 15p a litre on both petrol and diesel.
