Neurodiversity Week an opportunity for fresh thinking

Autotech Group is marking Neurodiversity Week to highlight the value of different ways of thinking in the workplace.

Neurodiversity Week, taking place from 16-23 March under the theme ‘From Awareness to Action’, encourages organisations to move beyond discussion and implement meaningful change.

Autotech Group has already taken a number of practical steps in the past six months to better understand neurodiversity and discover how the strengths of neurodivergent individuals – such as problem-solving, creativity, strong focus and attention to detail – can benefit automotive businesses.

It has been working with neurodiversity specialists to better understand how neurodivergence can present in the workplace and how businesses can create environments where individuals are able to thrive. In parallel, the company has also been developing and applying technology designed to support different ways of learning and working, helping clients create more inclusive and accessible environments for neurodivergent individuals.

Meanwhile, it has also now launched an industry-wide survey to gain greater insights into how neurodiversity is experienced within automotive workplaces, particularly across dealerships, workshops and leadership teams. Insights gained from this survey will inform a range of initiatives later in the year.

Workforce opportunity

Simon King, CEO of Autotech Group, said: “Across the industry there’s a growing recognition that neurodiversity isn’t simply a diversity conversation, it’s also a workforce opportunity.

“Many neurodivergent individuals bring strengths that are incredibly valuable in technical environments, from problem-solving and pattern recognition to intense focus and creativity. By gathering insight from across the sector, we want to better understand how neurodiversity is experienced in automotive workplaces today and where organisations may need greater awareness or support.

“Our aim is to contribute to a broader conversation about how the industry can better recognise, support and retain neurodivergent talent, and ultimately help move the sector from awareness to meaningful action.”
