Cybersecurity a ‘significant’ issue for 95% of manufacturers
Cybersecurity has become the most significant issue for automotive manufacturers, according to a new survey by ABB Robotics.
Its Automotive Manufacturing Outlook Survey questioned manufacturers about digital risk, operational continuity and the future of vehicle production.
It found that connected technologies such as advanced robotics, analytics, and AI are delivering major benefits, but have also ramped up the need for secure, controlled connectivity.
The survey found that 95% of respondents rated cybersecurity as ‘significant’ while 53% said it was ‘extremely significant.’
Secure connectivity
Joerg Reger, managing director of ABB Robotics Automotive Business Line, said: “Cybersecurity is no longer something manufacturers are thinking about for the future – it is something they must address at the heart of production today. As factories become more connected, software-driven and data-intensive, cybersecurity has become a core manufacturing discipline.
“With more than nine in 10 survey respondents expecting increased use of AI and big-data management, and a similar number planning greater adoption of digital twins and simulation, secure connectivity is no longer optional.”
