Used car buyers cite vehicle condition as key concern
Used car buyers have cited poor vehicle condition as the number one red flag when looking for a new vehicle.
New research by Uswitch has revealed that 66% said poor mechanical condition was the factor most likely to put them off a purchase.
A further 61% said they would be dissuaded if the car had previously been written off, with 60% said accident damage was also a significant deterrent.
The study also highlighted that car buyers would be prepared to spend over their budget for the right car, with 33% saying they pay more for a low mileage car (under 33,000 miles) and 49% saying they would only consider a car under five years old.
More than four million used cars have already been sold in the UK this year.
Older vehicles
Uswitch car insurance expert Leoni Moninska said: “While the car’s condition will depend on its previous usage and level of care, the age can indicate its durability, longevity and the maintenance required.
“Generally, the older the vehicle, the more extensive the wear on key components, like the engine. Older vehicles may need more frequent maintenance and repairs. Additionally, older cars could lack updated safety and technology features that are included in modern models.”
