Vehicle mileage matters most for used car buyers
A study carried out by eBay has revealed how important vehicle mileage is for used car buyers.
It found that 72% of motorists would not buy a used car with more than 100,000 miles on the clock while 52% would be reluctant to consider a car with over 50,000 miles.
However, eBay suggests that this attitude means many prospective car buyers are missing out on good deals.
A Freedom of Information request submitted by eBay to the DVSA found that more than six million vehicles with over 100,000 miles were MOT tested in the UK last year, while nearly 407,000 had over 200,000 miles and around 43,000 had more driven than 300,000 miles.
The data also found electric and hybrid vehicles are increasingly clocking up the miles, with 93,000 hybrid electric vehicles booked in for MOTs with over 100,000 miles and nearly 32,000 exceeding 200,000 miles.
Outstanding value
Abir Tewari, UK director of commercial operations, parts and accessories at eBay, said: “High-mileage cars can offer outstanding value, especially when they’ve been well maintained. Even the latest hybrid models, with their low running costs, are engineered to deliver high mileages.
“With eBay’s extensive range of parts and accessories, plus the My Garage number plate recognition feature, it’s easier than ever for drivers to find the right components to help keep their vehicles running smoothly well past the 100,000-mile mark.”
