Used electric vehicles sales hit record high
Used electric vehicles sales set a new monthly record in March, according to new data released by used car data provider Marketcheck.
It reported that 32,880 used electric vehicles were sold during the month, the highest monthly figure ever recorded by Marketcheck and comfortably surpassing the previous record of 22,381, set in February.
Marketcheck says rising concerns over petrol and diesel costs may have accelerated interest in electric vehicles among buyers looking for greater running-cost certainty.
Meanwhile, sales volumes continued to increase as prices continued to decrease, with the average last listed price of a used electric vehicle in March at £21,726, down from £22,654 in February.
Landmark month
Alastair Campbell, Marketcheck UK, said: “March was a landmark month for the used electric vehicles market. Sales reached record levels, while prices fell to some of the lowest levels we have seen.
“The timing is significant. Buyers were already responding to better affordability and a wider choice of stock, but instability in global energy markets following events involving Iran appears to have added further momentum.
“When fuel prices come into question, many motorists start looking seriously at electric vehicles. March’s figures show just how quickly the market can respond.”
