UK drivers spend 10 days a year driving
UK drivers spend more than 10 full days every year in their car, according to new analysis.
A survey of 1,000 drivers by Auto Trader found that the average motorists spends four hours and 48 minutes on the road every week, which equates to nearly 250 hours a week.
Commuting to work is the biggest time drain, averaging 90 to 120 hours per year, or nearly five full days.
Meanwhile, the average motorists spends 55 hours a year behind the wheel on the school run and more than 22 hours driving to visit friends and family.
However, driving times in the UK compare favourably to other parts of the world, with motorists in South Africa spending more the double the time in their cars (10 hours and 38 minutes a week) and those in Ireland and Australia driving for more than seven hours a week.
Tom Roberts, car leasing expert at Auto Trader, said:
“Our research shows that for UK drivers, despite spending less time than other nations on the road, the car is still where life happens, navigating rush hour, singing along to the radio on the way to a friend’s house or listening to how a day of school went. But 250 hours a year is a huge chunk of time.”
