Fuel prices set to rise sharply, warns RAC
Fuel prices are rising sharply again after Iran peace talks collapsed, with the RAC warning of further significant increases to come.
Latest RAC Fuel Watch data has reported that average petrol prices in the UK are now 153.5p per litre while diesel has risen to 168.6p per litre.
This comes after fuel prices fell at record rates during June with diesel dropping by 17p a litre to 167p and petrol prices coming down by nearly 8p to 151p.
RAC head of policy Simon Williams said: “Just three weeks ago we were celebrating the biggest ever monthly drop in the price of diesel and now it’s gone up 4p in 10 days to 168.55p.
“The average price of petrol is also up nearly 3p a litre at 153.46p. This is an example of just how volatile fuel pricing can be and how exposed UK drivers are to global events affecting the cost of oil.
“If drivers weren’t hot enough under the collar already from the heatwave and school holiday traffic, the chances are they will be the next time they visit the forecourt. Without the oil price settling far lower than it is now, it looks like unleaded will soon breach the 155p-mark and diesel will climb back towards 174p.”
