Car insurance policies rising again

Average car insurance policies rose 3.6% in the second quarter of the year, according to the latest data from Go.Compare.

It found that average policies were up £14 to and average price of £399 between April and June.

The data also found that the average price of an annual third party only policy is £546 compared to £381 for third party, fire and theft cover, while fully comprehensive policies average at £399.

Wales offers the cheapest average polices at £327 while London is the most expensive at £577.

Tom Banks, spokesperson for Go.Compare, said: “Car insurance prices have mostly been on a steady decline since the end of 2024, but our latest data shows that premiums have now risen back to the same level as they were in the third quarter of 2025.

“While this is still less than drivers were paying a few years ago, we’re expecting prices to continue rising into next year, with some projections suggesting increases as high as 12%.”
