Automotive Insights publishes inaugural report
Automotive Insights has published its inaugural annual report into motorist behaviour, based on a survey of more than 12,000 drivers.
The report examines a range of issues throughout the lifecycle of vehicle ownership, from initial purchase to running costs, brand loyalty and fuel type preferences.
It found that budget is now the main factor for car buyers, with new and nearly new car owners servicing their vehicles according to schedule although that weakens as vehicle age.
Meanwhile, lower running costs are driving demand for electric vehicles, with consumer openness to Chinese brands increasing. New Chinese entrants have moved from disrupters to the mainstream in a short period of time, and their market penetration will increase as more drivers go electric.
However, 42% of drivers still say they are reluctant to electric with their next purchase.

Comprehensive
Richard Walker, executive director of research and insights, said: “Having worked in the automotive industry for 30 years, I am really proud of what Needa and the team have produced. Not only is this one of the most comprehensive reports I have ever seen, but the fact also that clients can easily drill down into the data in our portal means they can uncover unique insights which relate to their specific brands, target audiences and customers.”
Andy Barratt, chairman, added:
“This report offers a thoughtful and practical view of a changing market. I hope it encourages reflections on how to better serve the motorists of today and tomorrow.”
