V-level qualifications consultation now open

The government has announced that its consultation on the introduction of V-level qualifications will run until 12 January.

It has announced the new pathway for 16 to 19-year-olds will sit alongside A levels and T levels and offer a vocational alternative to these technical and academic routes.

It is now seeking industry feedback on the proposal, which it will hopes will provide a more streamlined and accessible route into the job market for young people.

The V-level qualifications have been welcomed by Apprenticeship Central, which provides support to automotive apprentices and businesses throughout the apprenticeship journey.

A major shift

The company said: “The government’s new Post-16 Education and Skills White Paper marks a major shift in reforming how education and training connect with the world of work. The reforms aim to simplify post-16 routes, strengthen technical education, and ensure skills provision reflects real employer demand.

“At Apprenticeship Central, we welcome this renewed emphasis on skills-led growth, employer partnership, and clearer pathways for young people and adults. These are the foundations of a system that works for learners, businesses and the wider economy.

“Alongside the White Paper, the government’s announced ‘V-levels’, a vocational route designed to sit alongside A-levels and T-levels. It’s a sign that government policy is finally catching up with what employers have been calling for: simpler routes, stronger skills, and a system built around real jobs.

“We’ll continue to review the White Paper, follow developments as they unfold and share insights with our partners across the sector. For now, our message is simple – we’re on top of it, ready for what’s next, and committed to helping employers make sense of the changes ahead.”
