SMMT Regional Forum to examine industry challenges

The SMMT Regional Forum will take place at The Belfry this week, when the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders will discuss the state of the industry in the South East.

The Forum, which will be attended by automotive manufacturers and suppliers from across the South East, will explore how companies are responding to current challenges and seizing opportunities to grow.

The Forum comes after SMMT analysis reveals that automotive manufacturing in the region contributes £1.3bn to the economy each year, providing upwards of 17,000 jobs.

Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive, said: “We are delighted to bring SMMT Regional Forum to the South East this year, an area with strong automotive ties, a highly skilled and productive workforce, and a large economic contribution.

“The event’s focus on product innovation and how it will reshape the industry could not be better timed as global investors decide where to design, engineer and build the next generation of cutting-edge electric, connected and automated vehicles.”

Regional Forum is part of SMMT’s efforts to provide nationwide support, networking and business connections for members.
