Green Flag reports 200 daily car key-related problems

Research from Green Flag has revealed that there were more than 200 call outs every day last year for car key-related problems.
That equates to one every seven minutes.
Of these, 62% of call outs were because drivers had locked their keys in the car, 21% were for keys stuck in the lock or ignition, and 12% for lost keys.
Meanwhile, five per cent of call outs were for broken or snapped keys.
With drivers facing bills of up to £340 to replace lost or damaged keys, Green Flag managing director Katie Lomas said: “Inevitably, it is when you need to be somewhere important when you find you don’t have a working car key and unable to find your spare.
“Keeping track of your spare key, ensuring its battery hasn’t run out and storing it in a secure but accessible location can make all the difference.”
Drivers have been advised to follow simple precautions to minimise car key-related issues, such replacing batteries of failing car keys, storing keys in a temperature-neutral location, having a key-tracking device and using a faraday pouch to reduce the risk of relay thefts.
