Kia opens dedicated training site in Derby

Kia has unveiled a new training centre in Derby dedicated to apprentices and dealers.

The 40,000 sqft site, which employs a dedicated team of around 15-17 full-time staff, will facilitate advanced electrified training through a blended approach that integrates the latest digital tools and hands-on experience.

The announcement comes following Kia’s partnership with Skillnet to manage its apprenticeship programme.

Around 300 apprentices will now be trained in Derby every year, while the site will also servce as the hub for Kia’s entire UK dealer network, bringing delegate numbers to around 1,500 per year.

Paul Philpott, president and CEO of Kia UK, said: “We are thrilled to bring our new and enhanced Kia Academy to Derby. This move represents our commitment to supporting STEM education, driving electrification and helping our dealer partners build the workforce and skills they need for the future.”

Eugene Lowry, Managing Director of Skillnet, added: “The inclusion of value-added qualifications such as level 3 Electric Vehicle, hydrogen technologies and first aid at work ensures that not only are we developing future-proof Kia technicians, we are developing technicians that meet the needs of both the current day and future industry. Our delivery of these programmes not only supports Kia UK’s electrification commitment but also the government’s zero emission 2035 path.”
