Sales set to surge ahead of plate change

The recovery in vehicle sales is set to continue ahead of the September plate change.

What Car? has seen enquiries from customers over its buying platform ramp up from late July, reaching 13.3% above the annual average – making it the biggest full month of the year to date.

It has said that enquiries have continued to grow into August, with a year-on-year rise of 26% up to 8 August. Meanwhile, it has also seen an additional eight per cent surge year-on-year in interaction between customers and dealers.

Rachael Prasher, managing director, said: “Despite the difficult trading conditions for manufacturers and dealers, customer demand has increased markedly in recent weeks – even compared to last year’s strong trading conditions.

“While stock shortages may mean that not all of that demand can be satisfied now, the challenge is for dealers and manufacturers to manage customer expectations and build pipelines for the coming months. Those that are most switched on have a golden opportunity to build momentum not just for the coming weeks, but many months ahead too.”
