Blaze rips through Central Sports Cars

A number of luxury supercars worth hundreds of thousands of pounds have been destroyed after a fire tore through a car bodyshop.

Eight fire crews tackled the severe blaze which took hold of Central Sports Cars in Stourbridge, West Mids, at around 4.30pm on Thursday.

More than 30 firefighters had to withdraw from the building and tackle the fire from outside, which was brought under control at 7.45pm.

On Friday morning, it emerged a total of 10 cars under repair at the centre, valued at over £600,000, were completely destroyed by the fire.

However firefighters managed to save eight other sports cars, including various TVRs and a Porsche.

West Midlands Fire Service commander Wesley Williams said, ‘We had reports of a fire within a vehicle repair shop which contained luxury cars and luxury car items.’

‘We got here in a fast time to stop the fire spreading further and contained it.’

‘The company has managed to save eight of the cars. But 10 under repair were destroyed by the fire.’

He added the fire is not being treated as suspicious.
