Europe sets pace in electric vehicle sales
Global electric vehicle sales rose by nine per cent in July to 1.85 million units, according to Benchmark Mineral Intelligence.
Year-to-date, electric vehicle sales have increased four per cent on the same period in 2025 to 11.5 million units.
However, the data has revealed that strong sales in Europe are driving growth with demand falling in both China and North America.
Electric vehicle sales in Europe surged by 33% year-on-year in July to 450,000 units, while year-to-date sales are 28% higher than in the first seven months of 2025, reaching three million units.
The UK was among those markets setting the pace of electric vehicle adoption, reporting a 43% rise in sales in July compared to the same month last year, with Germany (46%) and France (81%) also recording substantial increases.
Benchmark electric vehicle analyst George Whitcombe, said: “Europe’s legislative drivers and subsidies continue to support the strong growth in the region, with electric vehicle sales up 33% year-on-year.
“What stands out about Europe is the subsidy support currently available in its major markets that is enabling them to be prominent performers in terms of electric vehicle sales growth within the region. Highlighting the significant impact that consumer facing support has.”
