Private electric vehicle ownership on upwards trend
Private electric vehicle ownership in the UK has risen 46% in a year, according to AA analysis of DVLA figures.
It found that the number of privately owned EVs increased from 533,039 in the fourth quarter of 2024 to 777,198 in the final quarter of last year. This represents an increase of 244,159 vehicles.
The fastest increase was recorded in Wales, with number rising 53.7% from 18,811 to 28,917. Growth in England was 45.4% (461,862 to 671,883), in Scotland it was 45.7% (44,848 to 65,340), and in Northern Ireland private electric vehicle ownership rose by 44.9% (7,330 to 10,614).
Within England, the fastest regional growth was recorded in the North West (59%), followed by the East Midlands (58%) and Yorkshire and the Humber (57%).
However, the South East remains the English region with the highest number of privately owned electric vehicles (99,979 in 2024 to 139,578 last year).
