Used BYD sales set new UK record

Demand for used BYD models reached record levels in April as the Chinese brand continues to increase its UK presence.

According to used car market data provider MarketCheck, BYD sales in April were the brand’s strongest month with 830 sales.

The brand has now set sales records in the UK in two consecutive months after 640 sales in March was also a new record.

Volumes have continued to increase rapidly over the last 18 months, building from just 33 used BYD sales in October 2024.

Alastair Campbell, MarketCheck UK, said: “BYD has gone from being a relatively unknown name in the used car market to one of the fastest-growing brands in the country.

“The sales figures we’ve seen over the last year are impressive. Record volumes in April continue a trend of growth as more BYD vehicles enter the second-hand market and buyers become increasingly familiar with the brand. While the overall numbers remain smaller than more established manufacturers, the rate of growth is strong.”

Biggest brand

The news comes after BYD established itself as the world’s biggest electric car seller in 2025.

It replaced Tesla at the top of the list after reporting a 28% sales jump to 2.25 million units during.

Growth was driven by the UK market, with an 880% increase in new car sales and an 860% rise in used cars sales to establish the UK as the brand’s largest market outside China.
