KSI figures increase four per cent year-on-year

New government data has revealed a worrying rise in KSI figures from 2024 to 2025.

According to the latest statistics there were 29,910 killed or seriously injured casualties last year.

Casualties of all severities was recorded at 127,870, which is comparable to 2024 figures, while those killed on UK roads fell by three per cent to 1,556 fatalities.

Meanwhile, the data revealed that males continue to make up the majority of casualties. Last year 77% of fatalities were men and 61% of casualties of all severities.

Lost decade

IAM RoadSmart director of policy Nicholas Lyes said: “These figures show a lost decade in terms of reducing the number of serious casualties and highlights the urgency of implementing measures to improve road safety.

“We are deeply concerned by the provisional increase in motorcycle fatalities which shows efforts to protect people on two wheels is seriously lacking.

“The UK government’s strategy will undoubtedly address some of these issues, but it must be backed by clear timelines, proper funding, and decisive action if we are to make substantial progress in making our roads safer.”
