Faulty washer jets account for 600 MOT failures a day

Faulty washer jets led to nearly 600 MOT failures every day last year, according to figures released by the DVSA.

The data found that 216,388 cars failed their MOTs because of faulty washer jets.

However, research from eBay found that 26% of drivers didn’t know that washer jets could result in an MOT failure, while 69% said they wouldn’t feel confident replacing the faulty part.

Meanwhile, 13% of drivers admitted to never checking the condition of their washer jets and 21% said they only check them when they have an MOT or service booked.

Abir Tewari, UK director of commercial operations, parts and accessories at eBay, said: “Small and simple parts like washer jets can go under the radar and motorists should routinely check them as part of their regular vehicle maintenance, especially before longer journeys and the annual MOT test.

“This vital part caused a significant number of failed MOTs last year, all of which are preventable with a low-cost, simple fix using parts sourced through eBay.”
