Commuters in the UK waste a week in traffic
New research from Auto Trader has revealed that commuters in the UK spend more than a week driving to and from work.
It found that drivers spend an average of seven days, two hours and 24 minutes commuting every year.
This ranked the UK 14th in a global list of commuting times, with drivers in South Africa and India averaging more than 10 hours commuting every year, followed by Ireland, Greece, Poland, The Netherlands and Italy.
Meanwhile, 22% of UK commuters said their commute was stressful, with congestion (84%) and bad driver behaviour (76%) cited as their biggest frustrations on the road. In terms of cost, 42% of drivers spend between £10 and £20 a week on fuel getting to work and back while 27% spend between £20 and £50.
Erin Baker, editorial director at Auto Trader, said: “It’s clear that most of the issues frustrating commuters are out of their control, with congestion and driver behaviour a bugbear for many. However, with over half of drivers across the globe affected by car issues, sometimes these stressors are coming from under the bonnet and not just what’s on the road.”
