Diesel dominates as van registrations fall
Van registrations in Europe fell by 8.8% last year, according to new data released by the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association.
It found that diesel remained the preferred fuel type for new van buyers despite a 12.8% fall in registrations to 1,168,561 units.
Diesel vans accounted for 81% of all sales, while petrol van sales fell 32% to make up just 4.4% of total sales.
Moving in the opposite direction, electric vans sales increased market share from 6.1% to 11.2% and hybrid vans sales rose by 21% to take 2.7% of the market.
The ACEA also reported that truck registrations fell by 6.2% to 307,460 units, although new EU bus registrations grew 7.5% to 38,238 units.
Electrically-chargeable trucks accounted for 4.2% of the market, up from 2.3% last year, while electric buses saw a sales increase of 23.8% across the year.
