Vehicle diagnostics business-critical for repairers

Independent repairers must invest in vehicle diagnostics or risk losing customers to dealerships, according to Eurorepar Car Service.

In its latest podcast, it has warned independents of the critical need to match dealership capabilities as more and more vehicles become software-heavy.

It has said that while remote programming, module coding, and manufacturer-level diagnostics were historically the preserve of main dealers, independent workshops can also now provide these services through subscriptions.

Subscription to remote diagnostic technology allows bodyshops to handle complex software updates, ADAS calibrations, and vehicle programming without investing in multiple manufacturer-specific tools.

Customer demand

Eurorepar Car Service is now urging these businesses to take advantage of this option to meet increasingly high customer expectations instead of just relying on lower labour rates to attract customers.

It says that repairers who fail to upgrade their diagnostic capabilities risk being relegated to second-tier workshops able only to carry out basic service and maintenance work.

A game-changer

Titus Simen, business development manager at ERCS, said: “Through one single subscription, independent repair facilities now have the ability to remotely programme and code modules.

“Access to OE-level information and capabilities that were previously only available at dealerships is a game-changer. It levels the playing field and allows independents to compete more effectively.”
