Driver confidence dims after autumn clock change
Nearly half of drivers admit to losing confidence behind the wheel following the autumn clock change, with more than a third avoiding journeys.
The clocks go back an hour on Saturday evening, meaning from next Monday it will get dark an hour earlier.
Headlight glare, poor visibility and dimly lit roads have been cited as the main concerns for motorists driving in the dark.
According to a survey of 2,000 drivers carried out by temporary car insurance experts Tempcover, headlight glare was identified as a key problem by 56% of drivers, followed by reduced visibility (47%) and poorly lit roads (44%).
A further 15% also admitted they difficulty seeing in the dark due to eyesight issues.
As a result, 35% said they have avoided a journey specifically because it would involve driving in the dark.
