Electric vehicle training initiative launched for dealers
A new electric vehicle training initiative has been launched to help dealers manage growing consumer interest in EVs.
Unveiled by Santander Consumer UK and available to all its dealer members through its Learn on Demand platform, the training aims to equip sales teams with the knowledge to support prospective electric vehicle buyers.
The module has been released after the government introduced its Electric Car Grant, which Santander believes will boost the sale of both new and used cars.
Steve Franklin, commercial director at Santander Consumer UK, said: “With the recent introduction of the government’s EV grant and the forthcoming September plate-change, we anticipate increased customer enquiries across both new and used EVs with dealerships needing to be ready to respond.
“Whether those customers buy a new or used EV depends heavily on the confidence, product knowledge and clarity offered by the salesperson.”
Online training
Franklin continued: “Our online training module helps sales teams tackle the most common EV-related concerns expressed by customers, including suitability, charging requirements, range anxiety and uncertainty over total cost of ownership.
“This training is about empowering dealership staff to have more informed and balanced conversations with prospective EV customers. Dealership sales teams need to be ready to speak confidently regardless of grant-eligibility.
“Those that do will be in the strongest position to benefit from the opportunities and the wider shift in consumer interest, while delivering the best possible outcomes for customers.”
