Tradespeople back telematics to lower insurance premiums
Nearly 65% of self-employed tradespeople would use telematics technology to reduce motor insurance premiums.
This is according to a survey of 1,000 people commissioned by insurtech company Zego and conducted by OnePoll.
It found that younger people were even more open to installing a black box to monitor their driving, with 70% of those aged between 18 and 24 and 73% of those between 25 and 34 saying they’d use tracking technology if it cut insurance costs.
Sten Saar, CEO of Zego, said: “Van insurance is one of the biggest outgoings for any tradesperson, and the pressure is being felt most by younger drivers.
“That’s why we created our telematics-based van insurance; it gives fairer prices to those who drive well. With our app, the better you drive, the more you can save. We’re helping small businesses stay on the road at a time when costs are climbing across the board.”
Zego’s app-based telematics policy tracks real-world driving behaviours like speed, braking and mobile phone use through a smartphone app. Drivers then receive a safety score, and those who drive well get discounts when it’s time to renew.
