Lightweight materials under spotlight in Munich
The 8th annual Global Automotive Lightweight Materials summit will meet in Munich on 24-25 April.
The conference will review and assess how car makers are pursuing weight decreases in electric vehicles through the application of new material technologies. Topics due to be covered during the event will include comparisons between aluminium and hybrid composites for battery cases, how hybrid materials can be combined to improve material performance and add stiffness to structures, plus how the joining of new high strength steels and aluminium alloys together affects vehicle performance and crash-worthiness. 3D printing will also be looked at, along with heat-cycling and fatigue assessment.
Speakers include Jimmy Jose Kuriakose, leader of HV Power Systems development at Jaguar Land Rover, Mustafa Başaran is currently working as Heavy Commercial Vehicle (HCV) Chassis Senior Core Engineer at Ford Otosan in Turkey, plus Nir Khan, director of design working for Plasan, where he leads teams configuring armoured vehicles including Humvee and Oshkosh for global peacekeeping forces.
