Electric vehicle buyer intent up five per cent
The latest report by Automotive Insights has revealed a five per cent increase in electric vehicle buyer intent among motorists.
The Manchester‑based intelligence specialist surveys 1,000 UK drivers to deliver the latest automotive insights.
It has revealed that 2026 will be the fourth consecutive year of growth for new car sales, with electric and hybrid sales increasing while petrol and diesel sales continue to decline.
It found that from the third quarter of 2025 to the same period this year, electric vehicle purchase intent among all buyers increased by around five per cent to just under 47%, while electric vehicle intent among prospective new-car buyers rose by almost 18% to 64%.
Richard Walker, executive director of research, data and insights at Automotive Insights, said: “The UK new car market continues to grow in 2026, with strong momentum of adoption of EVs and hybrids. Tesla’s market share is flat to declining as Chinese and other new brands rapidly gain ground.”
Darren Moon, strategic partnership director at Automotive Insights added: “Understanding what consumers think, what influences their decisions and how those behaviours are changing is critical for businesses navigating an increasingly complex automotive landscape. Automotive Insights gives organisations a consistent view of the market, helping them make decisions based on real consumer evidence rather than assumptions.”
