Used hybrid and electric vehicles achieve record margins
Dealer Auction has reported that used hybrid and electric vehicles sold at auction achieved record profits in June.
Its data found that average prices for alternative fuel vehicles rose from £13,844 in May to £14,237, achieving average margins of per sale of £3,334.
Improved margins were driven by higher demand, with the average number of bids per alternative fuel vehicle up 10% across the month.
Meanwhile, further analysis revealed that the average mileage of a sold electric vehicle fell from 41,017 in May to 33,622, with the average age of sold cars remaining at five and a half years.
Busy spring
Kieran TeeBoon, marketplace director at Dealer Auction, said: “It’s been a busy spring for trade AFV movement. Interestingly, this period has also been a turning point for new AFVs. In June, reports showed that more new EVs were sold in the 12 months to May 2026 than petrol cars and EVs claimed their largest monthly slice of the UK new car market so far this year.
“It’s a positive direction of travel, and one we expect to see start filtering more and more into the used market. But as stock volume increases, dealers will need to put all their experience and data to work to find those unique opportunities for profit.”
