Used electric vehicles now 10% cheaper than ICE models

Latest analysis from AX has revealed that used electric vehicles are now 10% cheaper than petrol and diesel equivalents.

This is the first time used electric vehicles have reached this price point since last September.

Meanwhile, the AX March 2026 EV Readiness Index also showed that charging infrastructure across the UK has improved, with its index score increasing from 40 in the last quarter of 2025 to 43.

There was also a positive trend around maintenance and breakdowns, with 88.7% of electric vehicle breakdowns resolved at the roadside, and only 1.5% of breakdowns due to a lack of charge.

However, the Index also highlighted ongoing challenges around electric vehicle adoption with mixed messages from government undermining demand. More than half (55%) of respondents said that the proposed eVED mileage tax would discourage them from choosing an electric vehicle.
