Used electric vehicle sales double in two years
Used electric vehicle sales volumes reached the second highest monthly total ever recorded in January.
According to new data released by used vehicle data provider Marketcheck, 22,111 used electric vehicles were sold in the UK last month. This is just below the 22,200 used electric vehicles sold in August last year.
The figure underlines growing customer demand which has seen sales increase from 10,135 in January 2024 and 16,227 in January 2025.
The figures also represent a strong rebound from December 2025, when just 14,632 used EVs were sold.
Real progress
Alastair Campbell, Marketcheck UK, said: “January 2026 demonstrates real progress for the UK’s used EV market, with the second highest number of vehicles ever sold in a single month. Just two years ago, monthly sales were barely half of what we’ve seen in January.
“This surge reflects growing consumer confidence, improving affordability, and a rapidly expanding supply of second-hand electric vehicles. Used EVs are no longer a niche purchase, they are now firmly established as a mainstream option for UK car buyers.”
