Top five electric vehicle repairs revealed

Analysis by Warrantywise has identified the five most common electric vehicle repairs.

It found that battery-related issues are actually rare despite consumer fears, with most repair requests for electric vehicles relating to standard vehicle components rather than those specific to electric vehicles.

In fact, the only electric-specific repair request on the top five list related to the on-board charger, which cost on average £2,158 to repair.

However, when electric vehicle battery failures do occur they are expensive to rectify with average repair requests recorded at £6,435.

But according to the data, the top two most common repairs both related to electrical systems, with sensor and central locking failures coming with average repair requests of £809 and £899 respectively. The fourth and fifth most common failures were wishbones (£1,229) and auxiliary batteries (£532).

Balanced picture

Antony Diggins, managing director at Warrantywise, said: “For many used EV buyers, the battery is still the biggest perceived concern, but our repair request data shows a more balanced picture. The most regular repair requests we see are linked to familiar used-car components, from sensors and central locking to suspension and aux batteries, rather than the EV battery itself.

“That is an important message for dealers. It gives sales teams a clearer way to discuss used EV ownership with customers, helping to reduce misconceptions without downplaying the fact that repair costs can still be significant.”
