Team UK triumphs at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026
WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 has drawn to a close after four days of intense competition.
More than 1,500 competitors from over 80 countries and regions took part in the event, competing across 64 different skills competitions.
Competing for Team UK, Oisin McKerr from Northern Ireland, who works for Porters Bodyshop and attends Southern Regional College, took a bronze medal in the Car Painting competition, while Joe Wilton, who works for SDM Paintwork and attends Riverpark Training, received a Medal of Excellence in Autobody Repair.
They helped Team UK to their best performance since 2017, with two golds, one silver, three bronzes, and a further 13 Medals for Excellence,

Each and every one of the team has put in a phenomenal effort – not just this week, but the three years that they have been in the process, competing, learning and evolving their skills throughout the process.
“Being part of this amazing international skills movement gives us the knowledge and expertise to help thousands of young learners across the UK prepare for the world of work.
“WorldSkills UK is liaising with the government and the Milburn Commission about ensuring that more young people can benefit from involvement in WorldSkills UK’s competitions, locally, regionally and nationally to help tackle the rising number of NEETs.”
