Stolen vehicles down 11% but still double 2015 total
Figures from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency have revealed that were 54,830 stolen vehicles reported in 2025.
That equates to six an hour, or one every 10 minutes.
This is 11% down from 2024 but still more than double the number of stolen vehicles in 2015.
Analysis from What Car? found that the Ford Fiesta was the most stolen car in 2025 (3,511), followed by the Volkswagen Golf (1,625) and the Ford Focus (1,625). Completing the top five were the Toyota RAV4 (1,319) and the BMW 3 Series (1,249).
Meanwhile, thefts of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class fell 26% year-on-year and is now ranked 14th among the most stolen models.
What Car? consumer editor Claire Evans, said: “Annual car theft figures continue to be very high, so owners need to do all they can to keep their vehicles safe.
“Our data shows that small, inexpensive models such as the Nissan Juke and Vauxhall Corsa are under threat, so it’s vital to take measures to protect all cars. Simple measures like a steering lock or keeping your keys in a Faraday pouch will lessen the chances of your car being stolen.”
