March sets new record for UK used hybrid vehicle sales
March 2026 was the strongest month on record for used hybrid vehicle sales in the UK, according to new data released by used car data provider Marketcheck.
A total of 41,136 used hybrids were sold during March, the highest monthly figure ever recorded and surpasses the previous record of 36,832 in January 2026.
Used hybrid vehicle sales
Used hybrid sales have now increased substantially from the levels seen in 2023, when monthly totals were typically between 14,000 and 18,000 vehicles.
The continued popularity of hybrids reflects strong demand from motorists looking for improved fuel economy and lower emissions, while retaining the convenience of a petrol engine.
Alastair Campbell from MarketCheck UK said about the used hybrid vehicle sales figures: “March was a landmark month for the used hybrid market, with sales reaching a new all-time high of more than 41,000 vehicles.
Improved efficiency
Hybrids are proving particularly attractive to buyers who want lower running costs and better efficiency, but are not yet ready to move fully electric. They offer a practical middle ground, and that is clearly being reflected in the sales figures.
The pace of growth over the last two years has been remarkable, and hybrids are now one of the key drivers of activity in the wider used car market.
Events in Iran have clearly played a role, with rising fuel prices forcing buyers to look at alternatives to petrol vehicles.
