IMI hosts roundtable on the future of the MOT

The Institute of the Motor Industry has hosted a strategic roundtable focused on the future of the MOT.

Supported by the DVSA, the roundtable brought together a number of industry experts to share their views on what is required to ensure the MOT remains fit for purpose.

It addressed key issues such as electric vehicle-specific inspection requirements and emerging safety risks, as well as cost pressures, skills and training requirements.

Taking part in the discussions were representatives from industry bodies such as the SMMT, NFDA, BVRLA and IAAF, road safety organisations including IAM RoadSmart and TyreSafe, educators, employers, government and technical, research and legal organisations.

IMI CEO Nick Connor

IMI CEO Nick Connor said: “Getting such a wide range of experts around the table for this discussion was essential and provided valuable insights from real-world business experience that will help to inform how the MOT test evolves to meet future need.

“As the voice of the automotive workforce, it was important for the IMI to initiate this critical discussion. The collective goal was to ensure the future of road safety through sustainable and futureproof roadworthiness testing.”
