Empowering Auto UK welcomes Solera cap hpi

Solera cap hpi has joined Empowering Auto UK as a founding member to help the industry tackle gender inequality.

Empowering Auto is a not-for-profit initiative that was created in Canada to support women in the industry and drive positive change through recruiting initiatives, mentoring and supportive leadership.

Empowering Auto UK officially launches in the UK on 12 May, bringing together senior leaders and emerging talent to address enduring structural issues in recruitment, retention, and progression.

As a founding member, Solera cap hpi will play a part in shaping the UK chapter. It already has a strong track record of addressing the gender divide through initiatives such as Solera WIND (Women in Dealerships), Women in Solera (WINS) and Women in Insurance (WIINS).

Coordinated response

Stacey Ward, senior director of data products and operations at Solera cap hpi, said: “The decision to back the initiative shows both the scale of the challenge and the call for a more coordinated response across the sector. We are supporting Empowering Auto UK to tackle the main issues, underrepresentation, weak retention, slow progression into leadership, workplace culture, and inconsistent senior commitment across the sector.

“The UK automotive industry has been trying to address this, but SMMT data still shows a substantial gender gap, with women making up only about 20% of the workforce and even fewer at board or senior levels.”

Women comprise about 20% of the UK automotive workforce, with lower representation at senior and board levels, despite industry targets of 30% female representation by the end of the decade.
