Electric vehicle numbers climb to over 2.2 million
Latest figures have found that electric vehicle numbers in the UK rose to 2,222,101 units by the end of June.
This is according to Gecko’s Battery Electric Vehicle Insights report for July 2026.
It reported that a further 67,104 new electric vehicles were registered during the month compared to 57,532 new hybrid vehicles.
This backs up the latest figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, which reported that 30% of all new car sales in June were electrics, with hybrids taking a 14% share and plug-in hybrids making up 12.5% of all new car sales.
Meanwhile, Gecko analysis further found that the average cost to repair a battery electric vehicle over the past 12 months was £3,463 compared to £3,078 for hybrids repairs.
The higher cost of electric vehicle repairs is attributed to labour rates and the cost of replacement parts, with Gecko’s latest analysis finding the average labour cost to repair a battery electric vehicle was £999 over the past year, while average parts costs reached £1,378.
