Demand grows for newer used electric vehicles
New data has revealed that the average age and mileage of sold used electric vehicles fell in September, while average prices increased.
According to Dealer Auction’s EV Performance Review for September, the average age dropped to 4.7 years while average mileage of sold vehicles decreased to 38,100.
By contrast, the average sold price grew for a second month in row to £14,299.
In terms of individual models, the Volvo XC90 and XC60 were the two top-performing vehicles, with the XC40 seventh on the list, while the Nissan Qashqai topped the sales volume charts.
Marketplace director at Dealer Auction Kieran TeeBoon said: “September was an exceptional month for new car sales, and we’re starting to see the effects of this in the used car market. It’s already had a notable effect on alternative fuel vehicle average age and mileage metrics, and it’ll be interesting to see if this continues into the final quarter of the year.”
He concluded: “With surging fuel prices, alternative fuel vehicles may become a much more appealing option for many buyers. Added to this is the ever-increasing choice of alternative fuel vehicles brands and models as manufacturers expand their line-ups.
“It’ll be interesting to see how this affects buying trends further down the line as more options filter into the used car market. Quarter four will certainly be an exciting time for dealers looking for new sale opportunities.”
