Commercial vehicle sales strong in first half of 2026
Commercial vehicle sales grew steadily across Europe in the first half of the year, according to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association.
It reported that van sales rose 1.9% to 742,759 units, truck sales were up 9.8% to 171,933 units, and bus sales increased by 22.7% to 22,590 units.
Diesel remained the preferred choice for new van buyers despite registrations declining by 1.8% to 587,272 units, with market share falling from 82% in the first half of 2025 to 79.1%. Conversely, electric van sales rose by 41.6% to a 13.2% market share, while petrol models decreased by 21.2%, with market share falling from 4.9% to 3.8%.
Diesel was also the fuel of choice in the truck sector, accounting for 92.1% of all sales while electric truck sales rose 47.7% to take a 4.8% market share.
Meanwhile, electric bus sales surged by 56.8% to increase market share from 21.6% to 27.7%. Hybrid bus sales also performed strongly, up 10.7% to make up 6.1% of the market.
