Bookings for electric vehicles double in a year
BookMyGarage has reported that retail bookings for electric vehicles more than doubled on its platform during 2025.
Bookings were up 105% compared to 2024, building on annual increases of 112% and 136% in the previous two years.
Meanwhile, the proportion of total bookings that were electric is also rising. Electric vehicles accounted for just 0.4% of bookings in 2022, 0.7% in 2023, 1.5% in 2024 and 1.9% last year.
That has risen markedly to 2.95% in the first quarter of 2026.
Used market
Chief operating officer at BookMyGarage Toby Hughes said: “Our figures are testament to the independent sector’s determination to meet motorists’ evolving needs and garage owners’ recognition that the electric vehicle private ownership balance is tipping.
“We see this as a positive endorsement of electric vehicle ownership, especially in the used market where we would typically expect our bookings to be sourced.
“We are confident that the electric vehicle aftersales market will continue to make inroads on our platform as motorists explore different methods of meeting their ownership requirements and as the used market develops.”
