ARIES standard attracting widespread industry backing

ARIES has reported that more than 70% of the UK automotive aftermarket has now committed to its standard.

Meanwhile, 50% have already established verified carbon reduction plans.

ARIES (the Accident Repair Industry Environmental Standard) is a UK industry-wide initiative designed to measure and reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions within the vehicle accident repair sector.

It was introduced last summer to replace PAS 2060. To date, it has more than 1,000 users, including over 500 repairer financial entities, covering more than 1,100 repairer sites.

Profitability

Gary Brench, director of risk and assurance at Vizion Group, said: “The link between reduced energy consumption and profitability has been borne out by research over many years.

“What’s more, there is plenty of help from insurers to assist research and development of energy reduction practices. At last count, we benefit from 95% insurer industry support, of which 76% are actively funding.

“It has been encouraging to see so many members get to grips with energy and carbon emission reduction. As we go through the year, this sense of connection and shared purpose will grow. Now is a time for action and collaboration. It’s not a time to be a passive observer of change.

“There’s certainly a lot of work to do, but what we are doing really matters, so keep going.”
