Smarter telematics highlighted as part of Road Safety Week
Northgate Vehicle Hire is marking Road Safety Week by highlighting how smarter telematics can improve driver behaviour and prevent collisions.
The theme of this year’s Road Safety Week is ‘safe vehicles save lives.’
More than 12,000 Northgate vehicles are now equipped with telematics, giving fleets greater visibility of risk.
Central to this is a Driver League Table, which ranks every driver in a fleet based on their performance behind the wheel, meaning managers can quickly identify trends, coach consistently, and incentivise safer behaviour.
The system also enables managers to drill down into every incident captured under ABC – Acceleration, Braking and Cornering – with each recorded event coming with a 15-second video clip captured by the vehicle’s on-board camera system. This combination of data plus video allows fleets to distinguish between genuine safety concerns and unavoidable events, while providing powerful coaching material for drivers.

David Fenton, product development manager at Northgate Vehicle Hire, said: “Road Safety Week is a powerful reminder that technology has a key role to play in preventing avoidable tragedies on our roads.
“Our investment in smarter telematics gives customers clearer visibility of risk and creates practical opportunities to help drivers develop safer habits. Safer vehicles and safer driving go hand in hand.”
