Revive! backs claims that ADAS is increasing minor collisions
Leading smart repair specialist Revive! has backed up recent claims that ADAS is contributing to a rise in minor collisions.
The Association of Fleet Professionals warned that safety features on vehicles are deskilling drivers and making them over-reliant on technology.
It believes this is making drivers lazy behind the wheel, which is leading to a growing number of small bumps and incidents.
Now Revive! has come out in support of these conclusions, suggesting that drivers have become desensitised to warning sounds from sensors and says it has also seen a rapid increase in minor damage on vehicles fitted with ADAS systems.
More accidents
Mark Llewellyn, managing director of Revive! Auto Innovations, said:
“Drivers are starting to rely on technology more than their own skills and knowledge. This will inevitably lead to more accidents at increasing speeds as more and more control is taken from the driver to improve safety.
“Now ADAS has become mandated in most vehicles it will become more and more prevalent.”
Driver training
Revive! has called for more training to make drivers not only aware of the advanced safety systems in modern vehicles, but also conscious of their limitations. It says this should go beyond parking sensors and cruise control and explain the purpose and usage of more advanced systems that actively take control off the driver to prevent accidents.
It said: “Revive! recommends that no matter the level of ADAS integration in vehicles, drivers should ensure their full attention is on the road at all times, minimising the likelihood of an accident occurring.
“When parking, Revive! recommends using parking assistance systems solely as a guideline; drivers must continue to utilise their mirrors and look in the direction of travel to ensure the safety of them and the vehicle.”
